God is my ever-present help and strength the whole day through

There was a picture, often seen in school-rooms and nurseries in days gone by, of a small child walking across a narrow bridge that spanned a deep gorge. The child was walking confidently ahead while overshadowing him was a splendid and most solicitous angel. Children were taught - and believed - that each one had a Guardian Angel sent by God Himself to watch over them.

Angels are not much in favour or in fashion nowadays, but the principle underlying their existence is the same. Whoever and wherever we are, we are surrounded by the Living, Loving Presence Who never leaves our side, day or night. We have but to turn within and become aware of this Presence to realize that we are safe, secure, guided and encouraged.

Older generations drew comfort from imagining radiant winged beings hovering about and affording heavenly protection. We can be thankful for the same loving watchfulness, understanding that in God we live, move, breathe and have our very existence.

I make use of what I have for my own benefit and that of my fellowmen

How many of us hoard things - things that we never use but which we are afraid to give away in case a time may come when we shall need them? How much better it would be to give them to someone who could make good use of them.

There are people who hoard money and clothes and other possessions instead of using them for their own benefit or for the benefit of those in greater need of them. How many of us, if we looked through our cupboards, would not find things which we do not use ourselves but which we are hoarding in case of a problematical 'rainy day'? How little faith we show in God as our source of supply when we do this.

How much better to enjoy what we have while we can and allow others to share our enjoyment; and to give away what we can spare in a spirit of love.

I do not condemn other religions but seek to understand them

There are people who think that they have found the only path which leads to God. How wrong they are. I think that it iwas Dr Harold Taylor who said: "There are as many roads to the attainment of wisdom and goodness as there are people who undertake to walk them. There are so many solid truths on which we can stand, as there are people who can search them out, and who will stand on them. There are as many ideas and ideals as there are men of goodwill who will hold them in their minds, and act upon them in their lives."

As long as love is the basis of a religion, the form of worship is not important, so let us not condemn others because they do not see eye to eye with us. Each of us must find his own way to God, and the form of religion we have is the best suited to our present standard of growth.

It is not for us to act as judges of another. The ultimate aim of each of us should be consciousness of our unity with the Father.

I will not fear, Father, for I know that You are with me

How wonderful it would be not to fear anything! There are few of us who do not fear something -- ill-health, poverty, the unknown, death -- to name just a few of the fears some of us suffer from. And why do we fear? Because we are lacking in faith. We do not realise our unity with Him Who is all-love, all-power, all-knowledge, and ever present.

That is one of the things we are on this plane of consciousness to do -- to learn that we are one with God the Father and all that He has and is. What He is we potentially are, but not all of us can FEEL this is so -- though we may accept it intellectually.

And if we are one with Him, we are one with each other, since we are all His beloved children.

I love God and try to do His Will in order that He may be glorified through me

It may be difficult at times to accept this ; text but if we would only realise the fact, there is a lesson to be learned in every experience that comes to us.

Perhaps we are enduring trials and tribulations that we think we do not deserve, but this is not so. Whatever they may be, we have brought them on ourselves by our wrong thoughts and actions at some time. If we had to suffer undeservedly there would be no such thing as divine justice; and if we could not believe in a just God, to what could we cling?

It is when we are experiencing hardships for which we can see no reason, that we are being put to the test. Can we keep the lamp of faith burning brightly under such conditions? We shall, if our trust in God is a reality. After all, it is quite easy to have faith when things are running smoothly, but not so easy when we are suffering from adversity and cannot understand the cause. But love will enable us to continue to trust in God.

My love for and faith in God are steadfast and He cares for me

If our religion is to be anything more than a form we must prove things for ourselves. We must prove that faith works, for example. Others may tell us what it has done for them but if we are to be convinced we must know it is true by putting it to the test. The experiences of others are not necessarily sufficient for us.

How are we to prove that faith works? By behaving as if the knowledge were already ours. By taking it for granted that it works. And this is the way to increase our faith also. We show our trust in man daily, so why do we not have faith in his Creator?

Love, too, can be proved. The more love we give out to our fellowmen, the more will come back to us. We must give if we would receive. The Master said: "Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give unto you. For with the same measure that you give, it shall be given to you."

The prayer of faith shall save him - (James 5:15)
I give grateful thanks that God, my Father is always the fulfilment of my need

When we pray, to whom are we offering up our prayer? If to God, what are we hoping to gain thereby? The granting of a boon, the changing of a condition (brought about by us), a healing of some disease?

God's part is already done in all that concerns us. He is the VINE, we are the branches. Would it make sense for certain leaves on an oak to beg the tree to send up sap to nourish them, to induce the sun to shine on them, to incline the rain to wash them free of dust? The sap will rise because it is its nature to do so, the sun cannot withhold the light which streams out of it, and the gentle rain from heaven falls upon the just and the unjust.

In order to attain peace of mind, to still our doubts we do remind ourselves that God governs; that He is our all-sufficing supply, and is expressing Himself - all that He is and has - in and through us. THAT is what we achieve through prayer - a sense of unity with our Maker, the attunement with him that convinces us that all is good and good is ours to use and to enjoy.

Trust illuminates every shadow

Such is the nature of man - unless we know darkness we cannot know light, unless we know sorrow we cannot know joy, unless we know pain we cannot know healing. We have been given freedom of choice. It is a realm that our heavenly Father desires that we fulfil on His behalf.

God's presence overcomes all the difficulties we experience on this plane of consciousness we call our world, but we must prove it. We are sent to do His works during the days we spend on earth. So turn from introspection to the world around you in the knowledge that it is a place prepared for you, that wherever you go you shine His light and dispel darkness, that it contains nothing that can harm you while you place your trust in Him.

If now you experience lack or are downcast or ill, do not fight it. Instead, in mind and heart identify yourself with Him in Whom are no shadows. See yourself carrying His light. Then, in trust, depart your dark place. Go forth and claim His healing by living it. This is what God wants you to do.

Have you undertaken some new work and are you nervous at the thought of it? Know that God is with you to help you - that your intelligence is part of the Divine Intelligence - and accept no thoughts of failure, let God be your guidance.

You should have the will to win, not to fail. To begin a task with courage and determination to succeed is half the battle. As long as you have the thought of failure in your mind you are likely to fail, so cling to the thought of success. As we think so we are, so we must think positively and constructively always.

Be enthusiastic about work. If you do not like it, change your thoughts about it and learn to like it. Bring confidence and energy to whatever task you have to do and trust in the Power of God within you to help you. Enthusiasm pays dividends, so be enthusiastic at all times.

I live my life on God's behalf

Being born of God is entirely a matter of acceptance, of attitude. Our Father holds us dear from the beginning but we must claim His love. This is the penalty and great promise of God's gift of free will.

God's presence in us, the "Christ", has overcome the world but for reasons that perhaps we never will understand, it must be demonstrated through the quality of free will we call faith. We can say only that it is a task we must do on God's behalf. The Master puts it thus: "God sent the Son into the world that the world might be saved through him."

So let us stop seeing our lives in terms of ourselves and see it rather as striving to fulfil God's purpose in us and for us. Our victory is His victory. Ridding ourselves of congesting self-awareness opens us to boundless fulfilment of all aspects of life.

It is our will, our desire, our hunger, to achieve that drives us to great heights. Many people may have the same skills as we but it is the quality of our feeling that makes the difference. To be complete in our endeavours we need both head and heart.

This is even more true when we need God to express through us. We may have sufficient intellectual grasp of Him but we also need trust, the courage to act. Without these God remains an idea in our minds, maybe a beautiful and sincere one, but nevertheless only an idea.

Our Father says to us "You are my beloved child with whom I am well pleased.." And if we would truly be His heirs we must acknowledge Him in thought and feeling. It is Divine law. We must say with our whole being "I will put my trust in Him."

I step back from fear and let God in

There come times when we ourselves have to dispel confusion. It is not that we have in an instant to conjure up the answer. Rather it is our certainty that the answer is present in the Mind and Soul of our Father, that if we clear our own mind and heart It will become apparent to us.

Anxiety, that niggling form of fear, is linked to our worldly condition of time. We fear that we are running out of time, that calamity will strike. But God's peace is utterly silent, is utterly motionless, is therefore utterly timeless. It is an act of the purest faith to step back from events unfolding before your eyes, to hand yourself and your world over to Him, to declare "Peace. Be still." Then you open your channels to Him, and His goodness flows into your mind, heart and affairs.

Truth is not for rationalists. It unfolds best before the silent courage which is faith.

I do my share towards acquiring faith and God does the rest

Are you a timid person? Do you shrink from making new acquaintances and experiencing new conditions? If so, remember today's text and be strong in the Lord. His Spirit within you should give you the courage you need - but only if you have faith in it.

You may say that you have no faith and ask how you are to acquire it. The answer is, by behaving as if you have all the faith you need. Play the part of one who has absolute faith and see how it will help you. 'Assume the virtue if you have it not,' says Shakespeare, and it is good advice. Modern psychologists tell us the same thing.

Another thing you can do is to make an affirmation such as: My perfect faith casts out all fear. In your true being you are Spirit, and Spirit is perfect, so your faith must also be perfect. Therefore in the quoted words you are making a statement of Truth. Try to accept it as such and bring all Power into action.

We must be fearless and strong if life is to be the great adventure it should be.

We shall be judged by what we have done rather than by what we have said. It is easy enough to talk but not always so easy to put what we say into practice.

It does not matter what our work is, we should put our best efforts into it, remembering that while we appear to be working for man or for ourselves we are really working for God if we are working well. And does He not deserve the best we have to offer - He Who does so much for us and Who gave us life itself? If we do our best we shall receive our reward though that should not be our reason for doing it. Anything less than our best is not fit to be offered as a gift to Him.

George W. Ballinger says: "How much easier our work would be if we put forth as much effort trying to improve the quality of it as most of us do trying to find excuses for not properly attending to it."

You must be perfect - (Mt 5:48)
I accept God's wholeness in mind, heart and deed

Many great thinkers are of the view that man and nature itself strive to move in a certain direction because there is a goal or place of stability at the end of such striving. Perfection may lie infinitely distant from us but there is no reason why we should not move towards it, contemplate it, occupy it in heart and mind as we would an ideal room or house.

In times of great distress do not join the tumult, do not engage with the factors you imagine make up your predicament. Rather step back entirely from the situation and enter the Wholeness which is truly your home, where you are enfolded in protecting arms, where all fear is banished, where all is well.

It does not help us to regard the solution to our problems as in a time and place other than where we are now. Reality is within us. Perfection is within us. We accept it, make of it our own in heart and mind, and pass it on in our speech, our actions, our body and our affairs.

You do not need to protect yourself from, or to take issue with, any form of evil for there is no God- and something else, no Presence in the entire world but His which upholds and blesses all of His creation.

Who is it that watches over the lemming on the snow, that marks the fall of each weary sparrow, and guides, protects and companions every man alive? It is your Heavenly Father, who is nearer to you than hands and feet, closer than your very breath. He is your Rock and your Refuge and there is no one who can deny Him or oppose His Will of All-good, which is ever active for every single entity that He has made.

Believe, accept and KNOW that He is an ever-present help, then live in this awareness each day.

I strive to have an open mind, a considerate tongue and a peaceable nature

It is surprising how much we can learn when we really listen and how much we gain by trying to understand what others have to convey. It is not necessary for us always to be on our toes, ready with a swift and pertinent response, for this means that we are more interested in our own reactions than in the speaker. The angry retort, the hasty judgment, the careless advice, can all be avoided by pausing for a little reflection. When we allow things to sink in before passing comment often there is no conflict, only agreement.

Ponder the deeper significance of a friend's outpouring of confidence and gain time to assimilate the facts and then you will be able to offer the counsel he is seeking or the comfort he needs. To be a good listener requires participation and is an active, not a passive, function.

This pausing, this weighing up, this refusal to react in a negative emotional way inevitably makes one 'slow to wrath' and engenders a more balanced and tolerant attitude.

The riches of the kingdom are mine and I accept them through love and faith

What a pity it is that we do not all FEEL that the above text is so. Many of us agree mentally with it but when it comes to putting our knowledge into practice, some of us fail. If we are suffering from lack, for instance, we may not be able to accept that all that we need is already ours, and that it is for us to use our faith to bring it from the spiritual realm into manifestation.

God is all love, all goodness, all truth, all wisdom, and all power, and what He is we, potentially, are. Today's text tells us so. What are we to do to enable us to accept it not only mentally but emotionally? We must increase our faith by making use of what we have, however little it may seem to be. We must put it into practice.

If we are poor we must learn to regard God as our source of supply. If we are not manifesting perfect health we must know that we are one with Him in Whom no sickness is - and so with all good things.

The Christ, in these words, told people that they should put first things first - the things of the Spirit before the things of the flesh. If they would do that their material needs would be supplied.

There is nothing lacking in God's kingdom, and it is ours to claim whenever we live according to His laws. And the greatest of all laws is that of love; for if we obey the law of love in every detail of our daily lives we can not violate any of the other laws. To live according to the laws is to know true joy.

We all want the good things of life, but we must deserve them by putting the ideals of goodness, truth, and beauty before all else. These should be of more importance in our lives than the things of the flesh - more important than trying to amass great riches, or becoming famous in the eyes of the world, or holding some high position in life. We must put God first.

Thank you, Father, for setting me free from my burden

There are those of us who think we have handed over our troubles and problems to God and who think we have faith, but who prove that this is not so by continuing to worry. Anyone who really trusted God would not worry - he would not take the burden back having once handed it over.

Certainly we must do what we can to help ourselves. We cannot expect God to do for us those things we are well able to do for ourselves. But if, having done all we can to extricate ourselves from the muddle we have made of things, we still cannot find a solution to our problems, then let us hand them over to God in faith and wait for His aid. He has told us to go to Him if we are heavy laden, and He will give us rest.

The Spirit of all wisdom, all power, and all knowledge is within us. Let us take our troubles to It when they become unbearable. But we must go in love and faith, giving thanks that our needs are already met in His perfect way.

Because I know that God loves me, I pass on that love to all mankind

This text is a short and entirely unequivocal directive, yet one that is by no means easy to follow.

Everyone in the course of his daily round meets all sorts of people; some he instantly likes, to some he is wholly indifferent, others he cordially detests. Some, out of the kindness of their hearts, go out of their way to help him and to promote his welfare; others seem to take a delight in obstructing him and even undermining him. His reactions to these various types cannot be identical. Some are bound to be positive - grateful and appreciative, others negative - embittered and resentful, but the command does not discriminate. What, then, is the average man to do?

Quite simply he is to realise that there is an enormous difference between human affection and spiritual love: the one follows upon individual choice, the other responds to the risen awareness that knows that all men are one and that "ye owe no man anything but love."

How wonderful it would be to be entirely free from fear - and we shall be when we have perfect faith in the Christ Presence within us.

What can we not accomplish when we know that the power of God is also our power to use as we will. We are indeed masters then, and not slaves to circumstances or to other people or to anything at all. God has given us minds, creative minds, which enable us to be what we want to be.

Are you dominated by some person or persons? If so, remember it is your oneness with the Spirit which sets you free. Use the divine Power to break your chains. We are meant to work out our own salvation - to make our own mistakes if we must, but to learn from them and make progress. Knowledge of our unity with God who is All-power sets us free from fear.

Be ye kind, one to another - (Eph 4:32)
Let me show brotherly love to all men

You may feel that it is not easy to be kind to everyone, and probably it is not. If people are unpleasant to us the natural reaction is to pay them back in their own coin, but that is not the way to behave. It is not according to the teachings of the Christ.

The people who seem to be unlovable are probably those who most need kindness. These may be the unattractive ones who do not draw others to them. Possibly if someone took the trouble to show them some affection it might alter their outlook. Love warms the heart and brings out the best in people.

Maybe you know someone who seems to give out love to everyone. It shines through his eyes and you always feel better for having met him, do you not?

Look for something to like in those you meet. If we want to criticise we can usually pass judgement, but we should look for the good in others - expect the good from them - and so help to bring it forth.

I trust God to reveal the solution

When human judgement fails, as sooner or later it will, and our plans don't turn out the way that we hoped, our first reaction may be stubbornly to try to work out "what went wrong?" or "who is to blame?" and thereby to convince ourselves that our correct choices unjustly received the wrong results.

But this is the time to let go of the little "wisdom of men". In your quiet communion forgive yourself for trying to proceed without Spirit. Forgive yourself for thinking that someone or something could stop Divine destiny from unfolding for you. Good always works on your behalf if you are willing to let It. All-knowing always reveals to you how to get back on track.

These experiences accumulate in you as true Wisdom. As your path of Truth unwinds through the hills and valleys of life, it leaves you a more adept traveller, a better steward of God.

With God's help I rise above sorrow

We all encounter sorrow at some time during our journey through life.

It may have been considered right at one time, when a dear one passed on to another plane of consciousness, to shut oneself away from the world and be overwhelmed with grief. But surely today we should know better than that? Life must go on, and the sooner we return to our work and our daily occupations the better. In this way we help God to help us. It does not do us any good to sit and brood on our loss - it but increases our misery.

Then let us return to normal living as soon as possible. We shall miss the physical presence of the one who has gone, but let us not look on what we call death as a closed door, but as an open gateway to a life of greater achievement. Let us think of the good of the dear one, not of ourselves.

God created the Universe and our small world is part of It. It is spread before us, a wonderful panorama, but we are blind to its fairness, doubtful of its abundance, of its winding ways because we do not KNOW that GOD IS EVER WITH US; that He is the Beauty that should uplift our hearts and delight our eyes; that He is the teeming harvest of land and sea; that as we go forward on our journey through this plane of experience to which - in love - He has brought us, his Presence shall protect us, his arm support us as He goes before us lighting our path and leading us to the Kingdom of our good awaiting us at its end. Love takes me unfailingly to my highest good

Love, by definition, cannot work against itself. It is a Force forwards, not erosion. We must remember this when we experience an impulse to lash out, to "score a point" against someone who seems to have hurt us or tried to hurt us. When we succumb to such reactions we simply paralyze ourselves, render ourselves unable to continue on our path.

"What is that to you? Follow Me" says the Divine presence within you. Set your vision on the Light ahead of you and let shadows fall behind you. True loving is not sentimental - it is declaration in word and deed that you are ruled by one Power, the only Power in the universe.

Love is not your private champion. Love is the all-powerful Referee Who resolves all apparent conflicts of interest. Know this, that in Love, regardless of all appearances, is your highest good and the perfect outcome.

Rekindle the gift of God within you - (2 Tim 1:6) I keep going on my path of Truth Omnipresence, by definition, never takes away. His gift permeates us from the beginning, but we may go through periods of our lives when we are forgetful of this treasure. Later, we may feel we have lost what we once had and that we must start afresh to regain it. This is not so. As by blowing gently on hot coals we find the fire of God's love ready in an instant to warm us and light our darkened room. So do not feel ashamed if you have wandered from the path of Truth and now wish to resume. Great is the joy in Omnipresence. Progress in nature can be deceiving. Emerson remarks on periods of apparent lapse: "In times when we thought ourselves indolent, we have afterwards discovered that much was accomplished and much was begun in us." Time is a huge mystery. When we perceive ourselves as inadequate and our world as hostile and dangerous, it is like locking ourselves in a dark room, but when we perceive ourselves as God's beloved children and our world as His world, we find ourselves surrounded by light, space and opportunity. With God all things are possible, but we must direct our expectations towards Him. How easily we all slip into negation, into irritability and aggression. It happens so fast sometimes that it shocks us and we ask ourselves "Was that me?" But we are given almost infinite opportunity to return to the path, again to put all our hope in Him, and to step forth as His representatives. That we are aware of our lapses and regret them are very good signs for us. The practice of Truth is steadfastly to claim our Sonship. It may be easier at some times than others but because of our persistence, our "importunity" as the Master puts it, He opens the doors one after another that take us further into His kingdom. Is it just a social convention? Is there some real, essential quality in the universe which is goodness? The intellect alone cannot provide the answer. Within each of us is a bell which resonates to the vibrations of goodness. When we experience it we know it to be real and we know it is good. We are the microcosm of God, His children. Just as a child rejoices at the return of a parent to the house, so do we rejoice in the Presence of our heavenly Father - in our minds, hearts, bodies and affairs. God's goodness is released through unbreakable Law. It is the Law of "like attracts like". We make of ourselves new wineskins for new wine. We open our hearts in love for Love. Always Truth transcends the obvious. Scientists proceed with theory, and instruments, and indirect measurements, and mathematics. We do not simply accept the "facts" because Truth is greater than facts. We judge "right" judgement. We see our world through God's eyes, which are our eyes made sound through trust in Him. Although the Psalmist seems to recruit God against others, his sentiment remains valid. Persons who seem set against us in life are no different from impersonal difficulties, like sickness, poverty and unhappiness. In each case we turn from these apparitions and behold the One in Whom is all life and all good.

"What is that to you?" asks the Master as universal Son, "Follow me." Learn always to look past your protagonists, be they people or situations, to the Solution that beckons: "My peace I give to you."

Followers of Truth are peacemakers, not because it makes them "good" but because it opens their world to Love. Love is always there but is held at bay by hardened and vindictive minds and hearts. Love, God, expresses through us, and it is our task to let Him through.

In all sincere religion God is associated with joy. Joy is loftier, more long-term, than pleasure. It dwells in the background of our feeling as the contentment which encourages us through life's difficulties and delays. And from time to time it bursts forth - as when we are suddenly overwhelmed by beauty, by a sunset, a landscape, an exquisite sea shell or a flower, a passage of music, the chortle of a child, the success of an endeavour.

Joy is the resonance in us of the eternal Soul. In Grace we ourselves may initiate it. When our Father seems to have grown distant, when life's troubles grind within us, when darkness looms ahead, we ourselves may strike the bell that sets the glorious vibrations of joy ringing in us. Joy comes before pleasure. It is attunement to God. It is independent of all worldly conditions. So in your darkest hour invoke joy, and thereby open your channels to the infinite Resource Which is your Father.

Whether we are seeking spiritual Peace, mental achievements, emotional happiness, physical health, or material possessions, if we keep our eye fixed on our objective, and persist in our efforts, we shall get what we have set out to attain. The pity is that we so often go after the wrong things.

There is nothing this world has to offer that an all-loving Creator would either deny us or withhold from us, but just as a wise mother would not feed her child chiefly on cake, so does an omniscient Father not wish us to pursue the baubles of life before we have found the Substance of that which is good. "Seek ye first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness," said the Master, "and all these things shall be added unto you."

To "seek" God is to attune ourselves to Him, and as He is LOVE we can do this only by filling our minds and emotions with this quality and by giving of it, first to Him (from Whom It derives) and after Him to all our fellows.

How many average individuals believe in the above text, acknowledge it, and give thanks for it?
On the whole man is inclined to feel rather hard done by; he has so much to contend with, there is so little fun in his day-to-day existence and there is always the unremitting struggle to make both ends meet. All things considered this realm is more a "vale of tears" than a merry-go-round! Nevertheless it is written "In thy Presence is fullness of Joy." And since God is Omnipresence, He must be with each one of us and each of us must always be with Him, maintained and sustained by Him, ever in His loving care.

What we have to do is stop looking at the negative appearances that surround us, raising instead our eyes unto the hills and know whence cometh our help - know that it comes from God, as we go forward rejoicing. Then all our ways will become ways of pleasantness and we shall have nothing to long for and nothing whatever to fear.

When you are troubled, and you do not know which way to turn, think of today's text. Know that the spirit of Christ within you is stronger than any conditions and go to Him for help. Then be still and know that He is God. Put your trust in Him and wait patiently for His will to be done in your life. Recognise the Power that is in you. Realise that His will is always goodwill, and try not to worry.

When we worry we are liable to block up the channel through which His help flows to us. We must keep it clear of all doubts and fears. The greater our need the greater is His opportunity to help us.

But do not think that to stand still means that you have nothing to do. If you want work you must look for it, for most of us have to work if we would eat. But if you have done everything possible, leave yourself entirely in God's hands in faith knowing that He wants only what is for your greatest good.

We may be experiencing some crisis in our lives which we ourselves can do nothing about. The only thing is to put our trust in God. And it is when we most need to have faith that we often find it so difficult. It is easy enough when things are running smoothly for us but not so easy when things go wrong. That is the test. When all looks black, that is when we prove whether we trust in God or not.

To acquire more faith let us make use of what we have, however little it may appear to be. Fear shows lack of faith so we should try to conquer some fear as often as possible, starting with the little ones and gradually moving on to the bigger ones.

Patience, too, we must cultivate. It is not easy to relax and wait quietly for God's will to be made manifest if it is not done at once and the matter is urgent. But that is what we must do.

In living the God-fulfilled life we cannot bind Him to our experience of time, of one thing happening after another. We must, in mind and heart, leap to fulfilment and to gratitude that "it is done". The "Lord Jesus-Christ" is the Father's presence in each and every one of us and in all Creation, whether or not we call It by that name. Were God not present in our world it would not exist, for there is nothing outside of His oneness. So, says Paul, let us start with what we know and are sure of - our very lives and all that sustains us - and give thanks for it, knowing it is inherently perfect.

Start this day in peace and in thankfulness, accepting the completeness of God. There is no higher prayer.

What crimes have been perpetrated in the name of religion! In the past men sought to impose their particular form of worship on their fellows with disasterous results. And even today there is not enough tolerance for the other man's creed, yet we cannot all expect to think alike. I may have been brought up to worship in one church and you in another. Some attend no church and yet are good people. Fortunate are those who have been brought up to accept the principles of Truth.

To you, God may seem nearest in a quiet garden, while He may seem closest to me in some great cathedral. As long as we feel our unity with Him what does it matter where we worship or what creed we follow? Why should you condemn me, or I you?

We must learn tolerance. Each of us has the form of religion necessary for his standard of spiritual growth.

Wrongly, religion has been associated with "miracle", with God intervening from on high in the happenings of the world. But God is in His world and in us. He invites us to demonstrate His presence everywhere. We are the light of the world, the salt of the earth.

God's resources are established, are here and now. Humanity persists in asking instead of accepting, using and giving: "Son, you are always with Me, and all that is Mine is yours." Infinite abundance in all things lies about us but we are afraid to reach out and incorporate it into our lives. We are afraid to reach out and turn on the switch that releases light into our darkened room.

The path of Truth is a way towards courage and trust and love. It takes us into pastures where there is no fear, where we may freely pluck the fruits of good trees, where we may freely give of ourselves because Substance cannot be depleted. Uncurl your fingers into the gesture of giving and receiving.

Many people claim to be followers of the Christ who do not practise His teachings. The world would not be in the state it is today if the nations were governed by love; races would not be at loggerheads if their contacts were based on love; there would not be the numbers of divorces we read of daily if marriage were founded upon love.

The Christ preached nothing else but love. We have been told that we owe no man anything but love, that love is the fulfilment of the Law; that we should love our enemies and our neighbours as ourselves. There was no aspect of living that He did not relate to love, but do we abide in His word or do we give Him lip-service only and go our ways criticising, envying, denigrating, and calling ourselves followers of the Christ?

My Father understands and protects me

Philosophers often look for God in the ice-cold atmosphere of intellect, some spiritual disciplines look for Him in the heat of ecstasy, others in the silence of meditation - it is their choice. But spirit, mind and heart are equally the domain of our Father. There are times when we need the steadying effect of detachment, but there are also times when we need deeply to feel His warmth about us and in us. Then it is wonderful to know He is there, comforting and protecting us. We are His lambs, His children, and He loves us more than any earthly parent.

Our journey in Truth should not make us too prescriptive or hard on ourselves. Our moods, our ups and downs, do not exclude Him. In whatever state we turn to Him, He is there. Our task is simply to accept him. Truth teaches accepting God equally in Spirit, heart and mind, but the focus of our need changes from time to time, and Omnipresence ever accommodates us.

I put God's idea above appearances

Ever since we each were born we have been subjected to the preachings of the religion of experience, of falsely claimed "reality", of inevitable outcomes. In the religion of experience reality exists regardless of how we may see it and we can do nothing to change it. Very few truly believe that "the eye is the lamp of the body", that our view of our world may change it.

Regardless of the gravity of what may appear before us, we have the right and the ability to hold our own view of it. As in the story in Luke, others may laugh at us, call us mad, but we hold fast to our knowledge that underlying all life's appearances is God's perfect idea, in which is no fear and no disaster.

You cannot settle this matter through debate, by logic, by weight of evidence. It can be settled only through personal discovery, by placing all your trust in Love, regardless of appearances. And it is not settled overnight - it requires sustained commitment. This is the path of Truth, the journey back to our Father, Who awaits us with great joy.

Think of your own circle of acquaintances in order to prove how right the essayist is. To how many of them can you say exactly what you think? Is he not right when he says that most people have to be humoured? With one, you may not be able to discuss your religion because the form you follow differs from his. Another, perhaps, is extremely sensitive and you have to be on the alert not to give offense.

We worship God when we turn to Him often, not only when we are in sorrow or trouble, but also in our joy. It is to feel our oneness with Him and all that He is and has. It is to know that we are His beloved children, and to live according to our high calling.

The Master, who respected the laws given out by Moses, says something apparently different: "The Father judges no-one, but has given all judgement to the Son." Is he contradicting the great leader and prophet? No. The "Son" is everyone who deeply accepts sonship and, to the extent that he admits it, he is the expression of the heavenly Father.

God does not stand apart from us but infuses us from the centre of our being to the circumference of our affairs. With mind and heart open to this Truth we have nothing to fear and therefore no need to condemn anyone.

This may seem chilly logic, of little use amid the circumstances and passions of daily life. But it must become an attitude, a way of seeing and approaching all life's experience: "I shall not want, I shall not fear, for Thou art with me."

The practice of Truth is neither blind belief nor retirement into mysticism.. It is thinking, feeling, speaking and acting consciously and constructively. We are lead by ideas. Our intellect and emotions reflect what is of God - we trust them and use them. In our times of quiet communion we surrender to Spirit because we know it is the right thing to do.

Another name of God is Law. This name reflects our certainty of our highest good when we surrender our dilemmas to Him. It is not a hit-and-miss practice but fulfilment of That Which binds the universe, That Which manifests in every particle and pulse of Creation. Scientists may have to accept that the true nature of matter and energy will forever elude them, but this does not stop them from applying what they do know to great effect - and so do we.

So, make God, Spirit, Love, your friend. It is closer to you than hands and feet, closer than breathing. You are Its very expression.

The great leaders and prophets of the Old Testament established laws for good living over the ages. But underlying all such laws in all the civilizations of history is one fundamental Law: You shall love God with all your heart and soul and with all your mind, and you shall love your neighbour as yourself.

This "love" which we pursue with heart and mind is nothing less than acceptance of God's oneness. Whenever we alienate ourselves from any aspect of God's creation we tear ourselves apart and invoke inevitable pain and suffering - we live in a shattered world, a world of separation of things, people, feelings, thoughts. Love is the restoring acceptance that there is only one Creation and we are each the very centre of It. This Oneness contains all that we could ever need or truly desire, for nothing real exists outside of It.

It is this consciousness of Oneness that Truth seeks to bring to us. We practice it in meditation and in the hurly-burly of our daily lives. It is our destiny.

Appearances may become very frightening. They may threaten great suffering and death. Then we remember God's promise "Call upon Me and I will deliver you." All else abandons us. However long we have walked the path of Truth and however far we think we have advanced, the situation has come that forces us to the simple and great law of trust.

Truth is not learning about lots of things, it is learning a very few things very well: God is not separate from me, for Him all things are possible, I trust Him absolutely, therefore I dwell in the state of fearlessness called Love. The Psalmist puts it even more simply: "The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want."

Do not wait for adversity to close in on you, forcing you to cry out "Lord, Lord." Start now to cultivate love and trust and a vision of All-in-all. Practise it in your everyday life, in things great and small. Learn to live with God so that you are never in doubt what to do in the day of trouble.

The helter-skelter of today's world allows little time for most to arrange their priorities so that their pursuit of Truth remains the main goal of each day. Many sincere travellers on the Path find themselves on a mid Monday morning, for example, feeling harassed by their day. They attended to their thoughts and feelings thoroughly over the weekend - so they thought - but all came unstuck a few hours into the working week.

Living in Truth demands a steadfast state of mind and heart, habitual surrender to Wisdom in all things. This does not mean living life in slow-motion - not at all. It means living with a Partner Who assists you to act purposefully, to make the right decisions, to control your mood. It does not add to your stress but relieves you of stress. You are not alone. You are protected and comforted.

Remember that everything that you do and say, your whole body language, is testimony to God within you. This is your most powerful call to others to interest themselves in your life's choice.

It is a very unusual person who declares "I am a liar." Much more unusual is to claim honesty. Can we ever be sure that what we hear or read is true? The answer in practice is that we judge by appearances, and it is a frail judgement. For example, advertising and packaging may claim all sorts of attributes but the product may disappoint. Even society's laws may be fallible, and the judgement of the magistrate who must use them may be flawed.

What then is the Master's "right judgement"? As children of our heavenly Father, there is within us Divine integrity, which cannot be compromised by corruption, coercion or expediency. It is the confirmation deep in our hearts and minds of our oneness with Him. It honours all His creation, regardless of appearances.

Divine integrity unfolds in us and our lives through practice, through shunning negative opinions, through listening to conscience, through sticking to Truth.

The world does not exist to frustrate and destroy us. Why would God, Who is Oneness, make it so? We are the form that He takes to express Love in the realm of matter and physical energy. We do His works and He gives us the means to do it - faith.

It is true that what you do not have you cannot give. But fulfilment of self goes hand in hand with giving of self - as you give, so you have, of everything. You may experience deep rapture and bliss in your meditations, but until you impart it to others it is not established.

We are God's means of expression, and the expression itself. The taciturn, self-contained person is denied the area of influence that opens up through fluent communication. The person who gushes is denied the response of thoughtfulness. The listener invites wisdom and beauty. The doer attracts confidence and co-operation.

The Master puts it so simply - we convey God's light and it attracts others to its Source in us. We put aside self image and convey God's image: "Not my will but Thy will be done."

Seemingly from nowhere problems arrive at our doorstep, and our first impulse is to do everything humanly possible to resolve them. The fruit of this response, as it becomes a habit, is bitterness in us - the fearful bitterness of failure mixed with the cynical bitterness of success.

But there is another response - the one of Divine ignorance: "I don't know the answer. I leave it to the guidance and resolution of God within me. I know only that in Him is it overcome."

The greatest blessing of leaving it to God, apart from the demonstration of His good, is the understanding that grows in us. We come to see life not an end in itself but as the terrain in which we discover that we are truly His beloved children.

Newcomers to Truth often put so much effort into being positive that they forget about love. Nothing can be achieved in Truth without love. Love is our acknowledgement of the oneness and supremacy of God, that nothing real opposes us or could possibly oppose us. Therefore we have no grounds for fear and its variations - anger, envy, possessiveness, vengefulness.

Love is a light always available to us but which we have to switch on. As night yields its imagined terrors to brightening dawn, so does all negation fade from our lives. There is no need for us to resist conditions, circumstances or persons. None can prevail. All dangers are illusions.

This may sound like the height of wishful thinking. It cannot be argued or proven from afar. You have to enter Love to demonstrate it. Love is Law that cannot do other than fulfil Itself.

Peace is like joy - it is the hand of our Father resting on our shoulder as we traverse the hills and valleys of life, assuring us that all is well. We do not have to "find" peace, it is ever available, even in the tumult of our day. Our Father is not disturbed by any thoughts, feelings and actions which do His work.

"Thou dost keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee" was the joyous cry of the prophet Isaiah. Peace to the navigator in a storm who tells us that we are on course and clear of all hazards. It may bewilder others to see us thus, like the humourous office poster which says "If you can keep your head amidst all this you do not understand the situation."

It is in the nature of our attunement to God that we do not wait for Him to bring us things. Instead we become those things. We take one step towards Him and he runs out to meet us. In your meditations feel His peace, feel it during your day, and recall it should it temporarily become distant.

Omnipresence includes all that is seen and unseen. God is not divided. "Whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven."

So look upon your world with great love and respect, for you are looking upon God. Look inwardly at your thoughts and feelings - there too you are looking upon God. Whatever negation you think you behold is not of God, but is separation from Him, pockets of darkness maintained in minds and hearts and accepted by you.

God's kingdom, from its unknowable source in Spirit, wells up through our thoughts and feelings, and through our bodies into our affairs. It is all of one Substance and is timeless: "Of His kingdom there will be no end." Understand that there is no "here and there", no "now and then". There is only here and now.

Even the most understanding and patient person may be roused to indignation by the behaviour of others. It is right that we register our disapproval of actions that transgress previous agreements or even general understandings but it is not right to allow our reaction to become entrenched, to acquire feelings of resentment and vengeance. Then we become victims of ourselves.

Rather, detach yourself as soon as possible from the event and later, when you are able to reflect on the situation in quiet meditation, hear the Christ within ask "What is that to you?" Prolonged anger gives others power over you. In effect you have begun to worship another god.

Do not allow such darkness to dull the bright, short day that is your life. Forgiveness of yourself and others clears away the clouds and lets you see clearly God's kingdom all around you.

Unfortunately many of us have faith in the wrong things. We believe in sickness instead of health, in poverty instead of plenty; and in misery instead of joy. We regard these things as realities, whereas the realities are things which have lasting value, not those which pass.

If we want to be well we must have faith in health and think in terms of health instead of sickness. If we want to have all our needs supplied we must know that we share in God's abundance and dwell on that rather than on poverty. As for joy - we must lift up our hearts to God and not give way to misery. We all have to endure sorrow at some time in our lives for it is part of life but we should not allow ourselves to be overwhelmed by it.

Let us have faith in the good and lovely things of life. Let us fill our minds with what is true rather than with what only appears to be true and is not. We show our faith in our fellowmen daily - why not in their Creator?

The Master's teaching cuts through all religion, even that founded in his name. How does a man or woman live? Are they a light among their fellows? Do they comfort and assure those in difficulty or pain? Do they inspire the fearful and hesitant to greater unfoldment of their potential? Do they turn wrath towards reason? Do they rise above their own constraints?

Too often is the individual judged by the worst of their religion or a religion by the worst of its followers. Rather discount religion altogether in your dealings with your fellows. God is All-presence. Truth would have us seek and find Him in our fellows rather than look for religious labels, weaknesses and failures. Also, as we strive to see our Father in them, we increase our own light.

It is the sincerity of their personal quest, and the humility and tolerance that this has forced upon them, that makes a person radiant to others, not their religious precepts.

We are all restricted by language, the words and grammar that various communities have evolved over the centuries to communicate needs, intentions, values. Languages tend to grow, ever adding new elements and shedding disused ones. In contrast, our true Self is both Oneness and timelessness. This means that man is continuously finding different ways of expressing the same thing.

So we need to renew our understanding of what "Love" means in relation to God. It describes the way we have adapted our thoughts and feelings to universal Mind and Soul. Love instantly tells us what is right and wrong, instantly forgives, instantly directs us towards outcomes that benefit all, instantly bathes us in humility, that of ourselves we can do nothing, that everything comes from the One.

We and our Father are One. There is one Mind-Soul-Substance of which everything in heaven and earth is expression. However you conceive It, whatever you call It, you ally yourself to It only through Love.

"God, show me the way!" is our cry in the midst of turmoil. And what great peace comes upon us when, perhaps suddenly, it is revealed to us what to do, or not do. We were lost in a dark and frightening environment and all at once light appeared and we could perceive and understand our predicament. The solution was at hand all the time but we could not see it.

Knowledge and understanding, more than any outside agency, are the bringers of peace. All the answers are already in us, and the means to overcome all difficulties, but we need perspective. This is what trust gives us. We focus away from ourselves and our apparent limitations and look towards Omniscience. The act of letting go itself breaks our logjam of fear. Divine solutions are always simple, very often they lie simply in a change of attitude - towards ourselves and others.

So, in the heart of the storm affirm Peace: "You lead me beside still waters, You restore my Soul." Solutions are not given to us - they are ours even before we perceive the problem, but we must give Wisdom a chance.

Do you face a situation that you wish you could simply avoid? Maybe it is a duty involving traumatised relationships. Maybe it is a task that daunts you so much that already you feel exhausted and would rather sleep. Maybe it is something that fills you with fear.

Know this - life never presents you anything which, with God's help, you cannot resolve. Claim time for brief communion with Him. Let your prayer be along these lines: "Father, I do not have the knowledge or strength to climb this mountain so I let You be my mind, heart and body. I know that You wish me to do this thing on Your behalf and that Your direction and strength in me is sufficient. Thank you."

Then go forth almost as an observer of your own activity, assured that you fulfil God's purpose and that it takes you towards your highest good.

Are you overwhelmed with guilt sometimes because of the things you have done wrong in the past? If so and if you can rectify the wrong by all means do so, but if not, put it out of your mind and start afresh. Each day gives you the opportunity to begin anew - to set aside errors of the past and to strive to do well in the present. We should learn the lessons our mistakes have taught us and then put them behind us.

The past is over - let it go. Stop blaming yourself for what has been and concentrate on what you can do to make up for it. If you have harmed someone to whom you cannot make amends do something good for someone else.

Free yourself of outworn ideas. What you thought yesterday is not necessarily what you think today. If you are to evolve you will have to discard some of your old notions.

If people would only think before they speak they might be less given to talking scandal, of which there is far too much in the world. Often it is the result of thoughtlessness rather than a real desire to hurt, but that does not prevent the damage that is so often done. The results may be equally harmful whatever the motive.

Why do we condemn when we so seldom know the true facts? The reason for anti-social behaviour may lie far back in the days of childhood. How then can we be competent to judge our fellows? The facts may seem to be obvious, but are they? How can we look into the depths of the mind of another and tell what is going on unless we have been specially trained to do so?

velop poise - learn to control our emotions so that we do not lose our temper when things are not just as we would like them to be. Particularly are we liable to become irritated with those who serve us, which is often most unjust. It confuses them and makes them awkward. Far better to be patient.

There is the impatience of motorists on the road which often spells danger not only for them but for others. There would be far fewer accidents if people were not in such a hurry.
Maybe we become impatient even with God if our prayers are not answered at once; but He is not to be hurried so let us keep our poise.

"The Father judges no-one, but has given all judgement to the Son." As you open yourself to your indwelling Father you become the Son. Then do you judge righteous or "right" judgement. Then do you dismiss negation as it appears in your world literally as nothing. As nothing, negation cannot affect real Substance, any more than darkness can affect light.

Just so can ignorance not affect Knowledge. Turn a deaf ear to the babble that would beset you from morning to night. In your mind and heart uphold All-knowledge, of Which you are the microcosm. You may not yet know the answer, yet the answer is known to you. Keep yourself open to it, affirming that it is already yours.

The Psalmist of old makes the same cry that we do today. Humanity's yearning to know its true place in Creation has not changed. Nor has the Answer changed.

What appears to be the truth is not always so. A table would seem to be an unmoving piece of wood, but science has proved otherwise. We must learn to differentiate between the appearance and the truth.

Some people ask how God, if He is love, can allow war? The truth is that He neither allows nor disallows it. It is a man-made thing and has nothing to do with Him. Man through his wrong thoughts and actions and his greed brings it about. God has given us free-will and He does not make us do anything. We can obey His laws and live according to the Truth or we can disobey them and be unhappy.

Search for truth always. Saint Augustine said: "Retire into thyself, for truth dwells in the inner man." If we want to know the truth about our fellowmen we must delve below the surface to discover their motives and their ideals and ideas. Our eyes can deceive us and what we see may not be the real man. Let us seek him.

So many of us are chained to something or someone. We may be the victims of fear, and what would we not give to be free of this destructive emotion? It prevents us from living fully and richly - from living adventurously and excitingly. Instead of enjoying the thrill of striving against the current in the middle of the stream of life, fearful people try to stay in a quiet backwater which they hope will be safe. We should all cultivate courage diligently. It will come with faith. Faith in the Power of God within us will make us bold and free.

We also need to rid ourselves of outworn ideas - the wrong ones instilled into us by ignorant people in our childhood perhaps. And these are not easy to eradicate.

But we must get rid of the ideas of God as a God, sitting on a throne in some remote heaven noting the errors of His erring children that He may punish them. God is a God of LOVE, understanding, and forgiveness.

We think God changes things for us. He changes nothing - it is we who change. The Psalmist declares in jubilation "The stone which the builders rejected has become the chief cornerstone." Timelessness means that a situation may take on a very different appearance purely by the way we adjust our minds and hearts to it.

So do not wait for "things to change". Instead affirm "You, dear Father, are present now in this place. Your perfect ideas have always and will always be available to me. Nothing has first to happen." As thus you open your being to Him you find your clouds lifting, your limbs flexing, your mind clearing. What seemed utterly impossible is now possible.

In your inmost chamber is no clock. You cannot impose your notions of time and sequence upon All-presence. To try, is to congest and paralyse, not God, but yourself.

Many people feel God is in some way rooted to their place of worship or communion. They go forth each day and then return to Him. But Omnipresence never leaves us, not for an instant. He is present in our periods of dedicated communion but no less in our most busy and active moments. He is present in events spiritual and carnal, when we are "good" and when we are "bad", when we are distracted by the world and when we take the opportunity to reflect.

His guidance is available not only at major crossroads in life but at every step we take. Often our greatest flashes of understanding come in unexpected moments - while we are busy with some ordinary task, doing something unconnected with our quandaries. Travellers on the path of Truth learn always to be open to His presence and not to depend on "big decisions".

"Do not be anxious about tomorrow" counsels the Master, because anxiety tends to close our inner doors. God is not constrained by time or place. So, if we leave our difficulties in His hands, neither should we be constrained.

We live our lives in episodes or along avenues. Each situation seems to play itself out in its own terms for better or worse. How often do we consider that a single Onlooker accompanies us throughout, for Whom our every situation is but a variation of one opportunity, to turn, behold Him and let Him in.

Do not imagine that you live among demons and saints, like in soap operas. You live within Oneness Who alone is Good. You cannot extract good where there is none, hope that manipulation of people and situations will suddenly release good for you. The Treasure is in your heart, and becomes manifest only as you release It.

As you start a new day say to yourself "There is One Who is good. This One dwells within me and yearns to be set free in my world. Now He goes before me pouring His goodness into every situation, unravelling it, bringing out the best in all involved. I fear no evil."

The story of Jesus-Christ should be understood within a Greek context, where aspects of Deity were almost always personified. What Paul is saying is that the cosmos is Oneness, with God and His Creation unseparated. Down the ages this "monist" view of the world has continuously been challenged by "dualism" which attempts to introduce a second principle - such as matter, flesh, evil, etc.

Light and darkness do not constitute two principles. Darkness is nothingness, the absence of light. All this may sound like dry philosophy but it is vital to our consciousness and our life. Do we deep down believe that negation is a force that can challenge God? Or do we accept God alone, and ourselves as expression of Him? Do we face life bravely, saying "I embrace God-the-Good only and turn my back on all appearances to the contrary?

Today place all your faith in the One Principle, God. In spite of all personalities, conditions and circumstances insist that Good alone prevails in your life.

To the great promise in Isaiah the Master adds a qualification: "Whatever you ask in prayer, believe that you receive it, and you will." We have to accept the truth of the promise before it can be fulfilled in us. This is the central dynamic of Truth, the "leap" of mind and heart that we must make - we have to trust God in everything that we need and truly desire.

Almost all of us have been indoctrinated from birth in the global religion of materialism and the interpretation of life's experience demanded by it. It is very hard to see things differently, to believe that there is a Power within us for Which all things are possible. Yet we must believe it. Within us each is the little leaven that can transform our reality - we must give it the chance to do its work.
"Ask and it will be given you; seek, and you will find; knock and it will be opened to you." Lift the veil of fear and behold the Kingdom of heaven in which you already dwell.

The whole of Psalm 37 is a gem for followers of Truth. It is echoed in many places in the teachings of the Master, repeatedly affirming that negation disappears before Good. Older followers of Truth, particularly, will agree with the Psalmist's reflection that he has not seen the righteous (right thinkers, feelers and doers) forsaken.

Our progress along the path of Truth is better evaluated in retrospect than in the moment. Like a hiker we may pause on a rise and look back upon the difficult terrain we have traversed and draw satisfaction from it. The great value placed upon prediction and planning in today's culture of materialism would misdirect our journey. Spirit (a name of God) is in hand - we simply trust It and use It. In due course we will comprehend the good It has brought us.

If now you are passing through the deep dark valley of despair, take courage from those who declare the fulfilment that has come through their reliance on Him. Say to yourself "I will have what they have."

Filled with expectation, quick to laugh, direct, affectionate, uncomplicated. What else can we say of children, except, tragically, quote the lines of Wordsworth: "Trailing clouds of glory do we come from God, Who is our home. Heaven lies about us in our infancy! Shades of the prison house begin to close upon the growing boy."

Plato saw our period between lives as time spent with the gods, or God. The prophet lingers in all children. And it is these qualities that we seek to rekindle as followers of truth - to believe in goodness, in love, in "magic", in "miracles", to become totally vulnerable before the world, to rely utterly on our Father for protection and supply.

We reject our prison house of negation and rise shining eyes again to God from whence comes our supply. The Master was a master of simplicity. So should we be.

How we have been brainwashed that we must do something, especially something arduous and associated with guilt, before we can draw near to God. We struggle to get in the right frame of mind, to humble ourselves, to confess our "sin", and all the time He Who constitutes us, Who is us, simply longs to take over all our burdens and illuminate our lives.

What parent waits for their child to grovel or become something different, before they help? Love and compassion compels the parent to step in. The only thing that stops the parent is if the child rejects them - which is what we do with all our preconditions.

Start simply: "Dear Father, I leave everything to You." Say it every time you feel a wave of depression or confusion, every time hopelessness would overwhelm you. Imagine an all-powerful Father solving your every problem, leaving you free to get on with immediate tasks. The path of Truth will take you much further, but make this your first step.

In the world there appears to be a great many people, but each is the expression of the One; each is the one-and-only "Son" (or Daughter). This is why we must love each other and also why we cannot dissolve our own responsibilities in the activities of any group. The light that shines forth from some may encourage and guide us, but we each have to fulfil the unique expression that our heavenly Father seeks through us.

Within us each is the desire for worldly recognition and acclaim, and often we try to excel according to some worldly prototype. In so doing we inevitably stifle God's expression. It can become a very painful experience for some to come to terms with their own deep longings. Often they feel guilty, even ashamed. But this is their Divine starting point, that of which the Master says "It is (there) that the works of God may be made manifest."

So today accept and give thanks for what you are and resolve to turn it to good account, to glorify your Father in your own unique way, the way God established for you from the beginning.
