The division of God's kingdom into "heaven" and "earth" causes even the faithful to see God as somehow removed from them. They speak to their Father but are not sure whether He hears or is really concerned about their needs. Because they are unsure, they keep on speaking, and take His apparent non-response as proof that He is indeed far away.

There can be no question that God hears. Indeed, He hears us before we have spoken because our needs and desires are truly His stirrings for fulfilment in us. No, the trouble is that we wait for the reply instead of accepting it as already given, and we hesitate to go forth in trust. Your Father loves you intimately. You are of His very Love-substance. Your speaking and asking serves to define the moment for yourself.

The Master again and again affirms your heavenly Father's affection: "What man of you, if his son asks him for a loaf, will give him a stone?"
